2022 Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition Brings Back Memories Of The Camel Trophy

Land Rover has introduced a new Trophy Edition Defender with a multitude of off-road enhancements that will be ideal for competing in the automaker's exclusive one-day off-road adventure tournament at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina.

Whereas the Camel Trophy off-roading event was staged annually between the 1980s and the early 2000s, Land Rover certainly took ideas from it.

Only 220 Trophy Edition Defenders will be built, with all of them going to the United States. To assist you out off-road, each vehicle has an adventure roof rack, a front undershield, a detachable ladder, a winch attachment kit, mud flaps, an incorporated air compressor, and depth rubber mats.

The SUV, which is designed on the 2022 Defender 110 P400 X-Dynamic S, includes a tow hitch receiver, ClearSight RearView, air suspension, the cold climate pack, an 11.4-inch display, as well as the Off-Road Pack and Advanced Off-Road Capabilities Pack.

Meanwhile, the color palette is achieved thanks to a custom car cover inspired by the Defender Works V8 Trophy. The iconic Defender, which was unveiled in February this year and is constrained to only 25 examples, comes with a variety of off-road qualities, as well as a 5.0-liter normally aspirated V8 engine that produces 399 hp and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque and is hooked up to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with a 2-speed transfer box.

A 3.0-liter inline-six engine produces 395 hp (295 kW/400 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque in the current Defender. On- and off-road obstacles, as well as physical and team-building tasks, will be faced by competitors. Before joining the competition, they will undergo one-on-one instruction to improve their driving techniques and abilities.

The Land Rover U.S. Trophy Contest will provide the 220 customers who purchase a 2022 Defender Trophy Edition the chance to compete in a one-day off-road adventure. The tournament, which occurs at the Biltmore Estate in Ashemore, North Carolina, will only accept the first 90 people who enter.

The winner will be invited to the Land Rover Trophy Competition, which will take place in early 2022 at Eastnor Castle in the United Kingdom, the heartland of Land Rover. “With a variety of off-road equipment and extra features intended for the ultimate Land Rover fan, the Defender Trophy Edition captures the spirit of adventure,” noted Joe Eberhardt, President, and CEO of JLR North America.

The new 2022 Land Rover Defender Trophy will be far more affordable, with prices starting at $90,000 against $270,000 for the V8 classic model.
