2022 Chevrolet COPO Camaro Enjoys A 9.4-liter Big-Block V8 Engine

Chevrolet's track-only COPO Camaro was introduced in 2012, but this year distinguishes out for 2 purposes. For the first time, a gigantic big-block engine choice is available. Secondly, there are no manufacturing constraints, so you should be ready to get such a COPO if you want one.

In 1969, a few Chevy dealers utilized the company's Central Office Production Order (COPO) mechanism to order Camaros with features and motors that were otherwise unavailable.

COPO Camaro was reinvented for 2012 as a specialized turn-key racing car that is certainly not road legal, with only 69 cars made in that and only one year. Chevy's enormous 572 cubic-inch (9.4-liter) V8 is now available for 2022. Chevy says an exact figure hasn't been verified with the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) yet.

However, looking through GM's factory engine lineup, the 572 comes in a multitude of power outputs varying from 621 to almost 700 hp (463 - 522 kilowatts), so it will most likely fall inside that range.

If these figures hold for the COPO, the 2022 Camaro will outperform the turbocharged 5.7-liter V8 engine, which produces 580 hp (433 kW). There's also a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 having 470 hp (350 kW).

Chevy makes only 69 units per year to commemorate the classic 1969 COPO Camaro's run, although not in 2022. The company will now produce as many COPOs as there are requests, with no restrictions. Since the current program began in 2012, less than 700 autos have been produced, but with manufacturing now open, vehicles will be produced on a first-come, first-served basis until orders cease arriving.

It's no news that production-model Camaro sales have been poor for quite some time. It's also no surprise that the present generation of Camaro will almost definitely be the last, but the final model year is still undisclosed.

We've heard 2024 and 2026 mentioned a lot, but the 2022 COPO appears like a final scream before the end, with Chevrolet effectively pushing all the brakes in terms of strength and output. The big-block engine version of the 2022 COPO Camaro costs $105,000.
