For the 2022 season, Audi presented the next edition of their R8 LMS GT3 race car, which is already offered for private teams to preorder for €429,000 ($505,005) including VAT. The latest model is a development of the previous R8 LMS GT3, which was introduced in 2015 and revised in 2018, and is based on the R8 supercar's 2nd gen.

R8 LMS is also produced in GT2 and GT4 variations, in addition to the most famous GT3 racing spec.

Aerodynamics, engine characteristics, air conditioning, suspension, and traction control have all been improved in the newest R8 LMS GT3. The new car features a reworked rear wing, a new V10 intake system, new 4-way adaptable dampers, better movable traction control, and enhanced climate management for extra comfort.

“Most of the improvements reflect the needs teams and individuals have voiced to us,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport Customer Racing. According to Reinke, the modifications increased driveability by allowing drivers without a professional experience to make better use of power capacity and torque curve for steady lap times.

The 5.2-liter V10 engine, which is made on the same plant as the production unit, produces up to 577 hp (430 kW / 585 PS) and has a rebuilt interval of 12,450 miles (20,000 km) and a service interval of 6,200 miles (10,000 km). A 3-plate racing clutch and a sequential six-speed gearbox transfer power to the back wheels.

The new Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II will make its race premiere before the end of 2021 as part of testing for the 2022 season. Teams and proprietors of prior R8 LMS GT3 vehicles can acquire a complete update kit and install it in their cars. Since 2009, a total of 275 Audi R8 LMS GT3 race cars have been built, winning 83 driver titles and 106 championships around the world.
