1984 Rimac e-M3: The Car With Several World Records

Matte Rimac is known as the Bugatti brand's new owner. He is also the designer of Rimac Automobili's electric hypercars, but few people are aware that he has competed in numerous motor racing events with a modified 1984 Rimac e-M3 car.

Rimac's interest in cars began when he was a child, and when he was 18, he purchased a 1984 car and began preparing it for competition. It was a BMW 3 Series E30 with a petrol engine that broke down shortly afterwards.

Later, the young man desired to switch to an electric engine to replace the internal combustion engine. After achieving his goal, Matte decided that the new engine's power didn't suit him, so he hired a whole team to increase the 1984 Rimac e-M3's range and modify the engine until it only produced 600-hp and 900 Nm.

The coupe in the E30 body reached 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and had a top speed of 280 km/h after all of the expert interventions. It's worth noting that this 1984 Rimac e-M3 set world records, which the FIA confirmed: 7.549 seconds for 201 meters and 11.808 seconds for 420 meters.

According to official FIA data, this 1984 Rimac e-M3 is the first car in the world to set several world records from the concept stage and to become the best electrically powered car.
