The Next 2022 Toyota GR 86 Brings A Feminine Look And More Power

The 2022 Toyota GR86 is a long-expected one on the market because the manufacturer wanted to bring to its customers a better-looking car with more power and up to its third generation of Toyota's GR lineup. And we think they succeeded summa cum laude this time.

Toyota's GR lineup brought us the GR Supra sports coupe and GR Yaris hot hatch, and the third one coming up next year will debut as the prettiest of them all because it holds most of the manufacturer character.  After five months of waiting for Subaru's opponent on the market, Toyota can proudly take over its well-deserved spot.

Developed in a joint partnership between Subaru and Toyota, despite having an almost identical appearance, the GR86 has to outfit the GR86 with a "Functional Matrix" grille similar to the one put on the GR Yaris model while the LED headlight signature is slightly different from the one found on the Subaru BRZ. signature.

The design was also developed as a bit more muscular with a lowered stance and curvier hips, plus a slightly narrower greenhouse. On the exterior, it features motorsport-derived aerodynamic components - special air outlets and side sill spoilers to ensure a better car's handling and stability.

Meanwhile, the interior suffered several changes to maximize the driver's focus, replacing the infotainment system so that the driver wouldn't have to look away from the road. There's also a 7-inch display with a much modern look which at startup will show an animation sequence inspired by the piston movements on the car's boxer engine. You'd still find some buttons, dials, and switched for a haptic backup.

This 2022 Toyota GR86 is powered by a 2.4-liter flat-four engine, the same as for the Subaru BRZ, the difference being the slight bump in power. The car outputs 232 horsepower and 250 Newton-meter, reaching 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 6.3 seconds - a better result than the previous GR models. The engine is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual optional.

Pricing on the American market would start at around $30,000. More details will be revealed further in the coming months.
