Thanks To Czinger 21C, McLaren Senna Is No Longer The Fastest Vehicle At Laguna Seca

Hybrid supercars appear to be the trendy thing these days, with more popping out like mushrooms left and right. This takes us to the Czinger 21C, an American hybrid automobile released in 2020 by Czinger Vehicles. The vehicle has a long list of amazing statistics, and it has added another to its CV.

Czinger 21C took for a spin at Laguna Seca about a week ago and dethroned the McLaren Senna, which had traditionally owned the lap record there. Czinger set a new lap record of 1:25:44, over two seconds faster than the Senna's 1:27:62. The flat-plane crankshaft in its 2.88-liter twin-turbo V-8 enables a redline of 11,000 RPM. It also has 950 hp (708 kilowatts) and 550 lb-ft of torque (746 Nm).

There's more, though. Three electric engines – one axial flux motor and two high-output electric motors with torque vectoring – assist the rev-happy V-8 for an overall income of 1,250-hp (932 kilowatts). A seven-speed sequential transaxle completes the outfit. The Czinger was fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and ran in "high downforce" mode. The sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) takes 1.9 secs.

What is the top speed? That's a speed of 281 mph (452 km/h). The Czinger has a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio due to its dry weight of only 1,240 kg (2,734 lbs). Czinger claims even more incredible numbers, including a quarter-mile time of 8.1 secs, 0 to 186 mph (300 km/h) and back in 15.0 secs, and 0 to 248 mph (400 km/h) in 29.0 secs.

To put it another way, faster than the Koenigsegg Regera. All they have to do now is back up their assertions. Regardless, Czinger has already demonstrated the 21C's capabilities by stealing a lap record from the McLaren Senna, one of the most proficient track cars of all time. The 21C will be produced in an edition of 80 pieces, each costing $1.7 million.
