Subaru Goes Full Performance Mode At Tokyo Auto Salon 2026
by AutoExpert | 26 December, 2025
Subaru is taking a different approach to this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon in 2026. Instead of dressing up rugged off-roaders, the Japanese automaker is letting loose with speed, handling, and track-focused tuning on this year’s offering.
Of the six cars it will bring to this year’s event, three are limited editions that you can actually drive home. The other three are pure race and rally machines.

Let's start with the bright yellow ones - the WRX and Levorg, called the STI Sport R-Black Limited II STI Performance Edition. Don’t worry about remembering it. Just look at them.
Sunrise yellow paint, black wheels, black trim, and Recaro seats with yellow stitching. No engine changes yet, but Subaru’s STI parts let you tweak them however you want.

Then there's the Impreza ST-H STI Performance Edition with the Plus Package. Pretty much a sportier Impreza with additional performance parts. The show car will be black with red interior trim, even though the press photos have it in blue. Subaru is giving one away to a lucky visitor who fills out a survey. Someone is going home with a custom Impreza!

On the motorsport front, there are three serious machines from Subaru. The first of these is a new car for the Super Taikyu Series powered by carbon-neutral fuel. Technical details are kept secret, but the car is equipped with next-generation technology. Next is the BRZ GT300 with improvements for the Super GT Championship to aim for a championship win, which Subaru has not achieved since 2021.

Last but not least is the tuned WRX VBH rally car, built for the All Japan Rally Championship. Besides, Subaru has also hinted at additional content before the show, including a clip of a blue WRX STI S4 and the unmistakable sound of a manual gearbox. That one will arrive in Japan at some point in 2026. If you're at the Tokyo Auto Salon, keep an eye out.
