Rimac Nevera Breaks Speed Record... In Reverse!

Rimac Nevera electric hypercar is no stranger to breaking world records. With 23 records already under its belt, you might think another one would be business as usual. However, the Nevera has just achieved an astonishing feat: breaking a speed record while driving in reverse.

The event took place at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany, where the Nevera reached an incredible speed of 171.34 mph while heading in the opposite direction. Most cars have speed limiters in reverse to prevent instability, but the Nevera's unique design, with one fixed gear ratio for both forward and reverse motion, made this remarkable achievement possible.

CEO Mate Rimac shared the inspiration behind the idea: "It occurred to us during development that Nevera would probably be the world's fastest car in reverse, but we kind of laughed it off. The aerodynamics, cooling, and stability hadn't been engineered for traveling backward at speed, after all. But then we started to talk about how fun it would be to give it a shot."

Despite initial concerns, their simulations indicated that the Nevera could reach speeds of over 150 mph in reverse. Test driver Goran Drndak, who performed the record-breaking run, shared his experience: "On the run itself, it definitely took some getting used to. You're facing straight out backward, watching the scenery flash away from you faster and faster, feeling your neck pulled forward in almost the same sensation you would normally get under heavy braking."

Remarkably, the Nevera handled the challenge smoothly, demonstrating the exceptional engineering and performance capabilities of this electric hypercar. Mate Rimac and his team continue to push the boundaries of what's possible in the world of high-performance electric vehicles.
