Mesa Welcomes Arizona's First Electric Fire Truck

To achieve their carbon-neutral target by 2050, Mesa is taking a significant step forward in sustainability by introducing Arizona's first entirely electric 'North American style' fire engine.

This cutting-edge fire engine, built by E-One, a division of the REV Group, can run four hours on a single charge and pump four hose lines at a remarkable 750 gallons per minute. 

Among electric fire trucks, the 2022-released E-One Vector stands out thanks to its 800-volt architecture and 327 kWh total battery capacity. That it can still function in the event of calamities like hurricanes, earthquakes, and blackouts is down to its optional range-extending diesel engine. When the power goes out, the engine starts up automatically to charge the batteries.

Flat terrain Highlighting the truck's importance in bolstering Mesa’s investment in public safety and the Fire and Medical Department’s heritage of innovation, Mayor John Giles voiced optimism for researching the cost-saving and efficiency potential of electric vehicles in city operations. Using the city's general revenue and bonds approved by voters in 2018, the cost comes to $1.4 million. This shows that Mesa is committed to being a leader in the green public service industry.
