Recyclable Hydrogen-Powered Ive Indigo Van: Isn't It Incredible?

A British company is working on a sustainable, hydrogen-powered vehicle that can be totally recycled, while having a long range and a large cargo capacity. The Indigo is a revolutionary light commercial van with a modular hydrogen fuel cell electric powertrain developed by MIRA-based Innervated Vehicle Engineering (Ive). With a 1500 kg payload, Ive estimates it can go up to 372 km.

Ive Indigo van, according to the business, is a more sustainable option for fleet operators and drivers. Its body panels are made of hemp, and its non-metallic chassis was developed without the use of high-energy techniques. The van has a 15-year lifetime, which is 128 % longer than conventional diesel vans.

The Indigo's setup, according to Ive, has been designed for driver safety and agility, with a central driving seat for a better all-around view. Professional drivers' comfort is also a priority; the back of the van features a low, flat floor with space for an extra rest pod.

Wing mirrors have been replaced with cameras, and all-around keyless access has been installed. Ive Indigo van has received financing from the Innovate UK scheme, which helps businesses develop new technologies, items, and solutions. Trial orders for pre-series vehicles are planned to begin in September 2023, with the first units arriving in early 2024.
