Ram's CEO Promises Truck Drivers Would Embrace The Company's First EV Model

During a recent talk event, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares seemed significantly optimistic about his company's future electric pickup vehicle. "We have a chance to see what the other guys are doing and perhaps surpass them. We enjoy this technology-driven contest."

Ram 1500 EV, which was presented during Stellantis EV Day, will be available in 2024, following the Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer, Rivian R1T, and the aforesaid Cybertruck. Ram has made some grandiose claims about its first electric vehicle, but Tavares assures traditional truck drivers that the new model would not forsake them.

Tavares expressed his new view when asked how daring Ram will go with the design, presumably taking into account the Cybertruck. "We want it to be futuristic, but not at the expense of our customers. It's not only about having a wow impact; it's also about keeping in mind that truck drivers demand convenience. We will not cut ties with our customers, but we will embrace technologies that will allow us to maintain our freedom of movement."

Taveres spoke more precisely about what current truck drivers want from an EV. "We recognize that truck customers have unique functional requirements. We have no intention of forgetting about the payload, towing capacity, and interior space. On top of that, we'll bring zero emissions as well as technology to extend range."
