Porsche 911 Dakar And Custom VW ID. Buzz: A Perfect Rally Pair
by AutoExpert | 12 February, 2025
The Porsche 911 Dakar is undeniably a head-turner, but this custom VW ID. Buzz towing takes the stylish factor to another level. This one-off electric van was crafted by Porsche Classic Center Gelderland in the Netherlands, decked out in a retro Rothmans-inspired wrap that perfectly matches the rally-ready 911 Dakar’s livery.
The wrap features the iconic dark blue, white, red, and gold colors, along with Porsche lettering and racing decals along the sides. While it’s clearly influenced by the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally, the Rothmans logo has been replaced with “Rough Roads” to stay clear of tobacco advertising restrictions, keeping that vintage rally spirit alive.

Unlike the cargo version of the ID. Buzz, Porsche opted for the passenger variant, which is the rear-wheel-drive model with 282 hp. While it's not as powerful as the GTX trim with its 335 hp, towing a 911 Dakar more than makes up for the difference in performance.

This isn’t the first time VW vans have gotten Porsche-inspired liveries. In 2023, Porsche Netherlands created eight ID. Buzz Renndienst specials, paying homage to the classic Porsche Renndienst support vans. There’s also the legendary B32 from 1985—a VW Transporter T3 fitted with a 3.2-liter Porsche flat-six engine used to transport spare parts for the 959 Dakar rally car.

With this stylish towing setup, Porsche 911 Dakar owners might just find themselves adding a matching ID. Buzz to their collection, especially since the 911 Dakar is expected to return in 2026 with hybrid power derived from the 911 GTS.
