McLaren Senna Has Established A New Street-Legal Record At The Interlagos Circuit In Brazil

The McLaren Senna has broken the lap record at Interlagos, also known as the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace. This weekend, the Brazilian Grand Prix will be held at the circuit, which represents Brazil on the Formula One calendar.

During an event hosted by McLaren's Brazilian importer, UK Motors Academy Porto Seguros, experienced driver Ricardo Mauricio set a new lap record of 1:37:856, a whole 5.1 seconds quicker than the previous record. Totaling 25 laps, including pit stops, the driver put forth an impressive performance.

However, Mauricio's first effort at breaking the lap record saw him surpass the old record by 1.6 seconds, therefore the extra laps weren't necessary. On the other hand, it was his sixth lap that he finished in record time. 

The late Ayrton Senna, widely considered to be Brazil's greatest driver, inspired the creation of the McLaren Senna. The Senna is driven by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which generates 789 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Thus, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds and reach a peak speed of 208 mph.
