Hydrogen-Powered Autonomous Semi Truck Concept HDC-6 NEPTUNE

At the North American Commercial Vehicle Show, Hyundai Motor Company unveiled two new concept vehicles. Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) 2030 Vision for massive implementation of hydrogen-powered fuel cells is bolstered by the addition of these two concepts.

HMC unveiled the HDC-6 NEPTUNE Concept Class 8 heavy-duty vehicle, while Hyundai Translead (HT), a prominent trailer manufacturer, unveiled the HT Nitro ThermoTech, a revolutionary green energy refrigerated concept trailer.

The HDC-6 NEPTUNE is a Class 8 vehicle that looks to the future in terms of design, in-cab electronics, and power. Hyundai's leadership in the transition to a carbon-free world and the evolution of zero-emission automobiles is exemplified by this concept.

The company's commercial vehicles are now offered in 130 countries across the world, and this new truck will contribute to that prosperity. Being a Class 8 vehicle also means it is the front end of an 80,000-pound tractor-trailer combo, including cargo. 

The carbon fiber, bulletproof tanks may add 2,000 to 4,000 lbs to the weight of a fuel cell electric truck. The weight of sufficient hydrogen to go cross-country is less than 100 lbs.

A huge windscreen dominates the semi's front end, flowing into the cabin. Digital side mirrors have also been installed on the semi, displaying images on a special frame within the cabin.
