How Travis Pastrana Got His Subaru GL Wagon Up To 862 Horsepower

One of the fastest vehicles in the 2022 Goodwood Hillclimb was the Subaru GL wagon driven by Travis Pastrana, known as the "Family Huckster." Pastrana is also known for jumping a bridge in Florida with the same vehicle.

Now that it's been captured, the Hoonigan team can examine the nuances that give this machine its insanity. The Subaru GL wagons used by the U.S. Ski Team in the 1980s served as the primary influence for this design.

However, a 3D-modeled tube frame and a carbon-fiber tub make up the chassis currently. The length of the wheelbase is almost equal, although it is broader by roughly 12 inches. Active aero components are creative and well implemented in the Family Huckster.

Deployable parts include the front and back fenders as well as the tail wing. They may be set to activate at predetermined levels, or Pastrana can activate them at the touch of a button. The 2.3-liter boxer four-cylinder with a single turbocharger provides the power.

With a billet block and design inspired by the Subaru EJ motor, there is 862 horsepower available. A six-speed sequential gearbox serves as the transmission, and the Subaru GL can reach speeds of up to 175 miles per hour.
