F-150 Lightning SuperTruck Is Ford's 1,400 HP Contender For Pikes Peak Challenge

Ford has finally unveiled the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck's engine specifications and paint job after a sneak peek earlier this year. On June 23, the F-150 Lightning will take part in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The model's tri-motor powertrain is similar to last year's SuperVan 4.2, the company said, with less than a week to go before the race.

Using ultra-high-performance Li-polymer NMC cells, the STARD UHP six-phase motors generate over 1,400 horsepower. The truck boasts an outlandish body that doesn't even resemble the road-going vehicle, in addition to the electric engine.

A huge wing, sleek bodywork, a giant rear diffuser, hood ducts, headlamp ducts, front dive-planes, and side diffusers are all part of the aerodynamically oriented design of the truck, according to Ford. At 150 miles per hour, these parts allow the truck to produce 6,000 pounds of downforce. Forged magnesium wheels shod with Pirelli P-Zero tires and carbon ceramic brakes are two more notable features.

This model's features include a carbon-clad cockpit with one seat and several screens, a fully custom in-board suspension system, and more. A veteran of Pikes Peak, Romain Dumas, will pilot the SuperTruck up the approximately 12.5-mile route. Following a successful ascent in 2023, he expressed his excitement about returning to the wheel with this team and contributing to the advancement of electric vehicle capabilities on this renowned track.
