Delfast Dnepr Electric Prototype Achieved A New Record At Bonneville

Between August 7 and 13, 2021, the Utah salt flats were ablaze with the 2021 Bonneville Speed Week. The yearly event included a wide range of vehicles, from antique flathead Fords to current streamliners, and everything in between. Electric motorbike aficionados, on the other hand, were keeping a close eye on the category "A" Omega, as Delfast's Dnepr project attempted to beat Serhii Malyk's 104.78 mph speed record established in 2018.

Delfast bought the rights to the Dnepr name and created the first Delfast-Dnepr prototype in 2021 after the Ukrainian rider attained that high speed on a Dnepr Electric motorcycle. Malyk reappeared to ride the new electric motorbike to break his own record. Despite the bad conditions, Malyk rode the Delfast Dnepr to a peak speed of 107.2 mph, about 3 mph faster than his previous best.

Before the show, the Dnepr's specs were kept under wraps by the Ukrainian e-bike maker. Delfast was keen to share the technology behind the record-setting prototype after the speed record was achieved. A permanent magnet synchro electric engine has a short-term output of 50 kW (67-hp) and a long-term power of 100 kW. (134-hp). The brand used a traction inverter with a 1000 Hz output frequency and an upgraded controller to achieve a motor speed of 5500 rpm.

Delfast didn't just want to make the Dnepr more potent; they also wanted it to have a longer range. The 36 22,000 mAH batteries are undoubtedly helpful, however, the maximum range is regrettably not specified. While this success is a watershed point in Delfast's history, it isn't the first time the company has shocked the world. The brand's Prime e-bike model set a Guinness World Record for the most distance cycled on a single charge in 2017, reaching 228 miles by an e-bike.

We have to keep watching if Delfast uses the Dnepr technology to implement its electric bicycle lineup, or if it uses the prototype to build an electric motorcycle. Delfast's historical successes and present technologies have the power to change the future of both sectors with a range that is important for prospective purchasers of electric motorcycles.
