Yamaha has unveiled the Yamaha Drive H2, a groundbreaking golf cart concept. This concept, which is based on the current Drive2 Concierge 4 golf cart, stands out as the first golf cart with a hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine.

Unveiled at the PGA Show in Orlando, Florida, the Drive H2 boasts two high-pressure hydrogen tanks, each capable of holding 25 liters of fuel.

Positioned under the driver's seat and on the back of the rear seat, these tanks demonstrate Yamaha's commitment to exploring alternative power sources. The concept aims to showcase that traditional engines can coexist with the push for decarbonization.

Yamaha is joining other companies, like Toyota, in investigating hydrogen as a potential fuel. The company has already dabbled in hydrogen-burning engines for generators and ROVs. Toyota has experimented with hydrogen-powered prototypes of GR Yaris and GR Corolla race cars, indicating a potential role for hydrogen in preserving the essence of combustion engines.

Yamaha plans to advance the development and testing of hydrogen combustion engines, with the ultimate goal of introducing them to consumer products. While the Drive H2 concept leads the way, Yamaha reassures golf cart enthusiasts that the standard Drive2 Concierge 4 golf cart will use conventional internal combustion engines and a purely electric setup for the time being.

As a reminder, the current models feature a 357-cc, single-cylinder gas engine or a 6.7-horsepower electric motor.
