Porsche is famous for its iconic models released in the last seven decades. Just try and remember the almighty 1998 Porsche 996 model. When the 911 model reached the market, it brought the company’s brand-new chassis in many years and as it’s mentioned historically - the first to switch from an air-cooled engine to a water-cooled version.

It’s well known that the air-cooled engine is considered by automotive fans as the golden years and each model is considered a rarity worth a fortune indeed. The Saratoga Automobile Museum in New York is lucky enough to host 16 pre-1998 mint-condition Porsches lent by the architect and rally driver, Harris. The exhibit is named Rare Air and it will be on display until Labor Day, September 6th to be exact.

Harris has an immaculate car collection but has no trouble driving them constantly participating in road rallies on a regular basis. This year, we can see him in one of his air-cooled Porsches in four competitions. Amongst them is California Mille and the Ramshorn Rally, which is an exclusive 30-car event just for air-cooled Porsches from 1989 or earlier.

Harris’ adventure with air-cooled Porsches began when he was just a boy and attended an exhibition that involved such a vehicle. Since then,  his Porsche ownership started with the 992 Turbo S Cabriolet, continuing with a 991 Turbo S coupe with carbon fiber and other beautiful unique examples. His collection includes one of the 50 limited edition 1974 RS 3.0 painted in Licht Grun (Light Green).

The rarest gem of them all in the exhibition is a 1984 SCRS – it’s just one of the 21 and 13 were successfully converted to rally cars. The exhibition will have one the remained 9 original cars that left the production line. His collection also includes a 964 RS N-GT “Macau”, a “widow-maker” 993 GT2, and a host of speedsters, coupes, and cabriolets which are stated as former Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance winners. Book a trip to New York if you are a Porsche fan because this is a unique chance for a true fan.
