Hey everyone, ever wonder which cаr brands seem to аttract the most speeding tickets? Well, it turns out, it’s not just аbout the car, but maybe аlso the type of driver they аttract. A couple of years ago, Insurify, a big name in insurаnce, did some digging into which car models sаw the most speeding tickets and some of the results might surprise you!

Now, we аll know cars don’t get tickets, drivers do. But it seems like some cars just have that, shall we say, temptation built-in. At the top of the list? The Subaru WRX, with a whopping 18.8% of its drivers having been ticketed. Here’s how some other cars stacked up:

Speeding Tickets

  • Hyundai Genesis Coupe: 17.7%
  • Kia Stinger: 16.6%
  • Mazda3: 16.4%
  • Subaru BRZ: 16.2%
  • Scion FR-S: 16%
  • GMC C1500: 15.3%
  • Volkswagen GTI: 15%
  • Subaru Impreza: 14.8%
  • Hyundai Veloster: 14.7%

Speeding Tickets

Interestingly, the national average for drivers with a speeding ticket is just under 10%. And guess what? Subaru, often celebrated for its safe and family-friendly image, had three models in the top ten. Go figure!

Speeding Tickets

Fast forward to 2023, and Insurify crunched the numbers again, but this time focusing on brands as a whole rather than specific models. The landscape shifts a bit when you look at the broader picture:

Speeding Tickets

  • Infiniti: 8.7%
  • Scion: 8.4%
  • Volkswagen: 8.3%
  • Subaru: 8%
  • Mazda: 7.7%
  • Audi: 7.6%
  • Kia: 7.6%
  • Honda: 7.5%
  • BMW: 7.4%
  • Hyundai: 7.4%

Speeding Tickets

Nationally, the average across all brands is 7.1%. How does Insurify find this stuff out? They sift through millions of car insurance applications—4.6 million to be exact.

Speeding Tickets

And for a fun fact: the BMW i3, yes, that quirky little electric car, saw a huge spike in tickets with 17.6% of its drivers getting flagged for speeding. No clue why, other than maybe it’s just too fun to drive slow? Meanwhile, BMW Z4 drivers are just chilling, with only 4.5% getting tickets.

Speeding Tickets

At the other end of the spectrum, the brands with the fewest speedsters include Cadillac, Tesla, and Volvo. And a shoutout to the Subaru Ascent which helped balance out those speedy WRX numbers—only 1.9% of Ascent drivers have been ticketed.

Speeding Tickets

Oh, and just so you know, cops make around 20 million traffic stops a year, and a good chunk of those, 43%, are for speeding. That's over 8 million Americans each year facing those flashing lights—because speeding plays a role in nearly a third of all traffic deaths.

So, whether you're a speed demon or a Sunday driver, it looks like your choice of wheels might be more telling than you think!
