What's Interesting About The French Scarabée Armored Vehicle?

A scout vehicle is more than just an armored car. It seems that France has created a crab-looking alike vehicle naming it Scarabée and is ready to go scuttle sideways across any battlefield.

The Scarabée has specific battle features - it can lock the front and rear axles giving the ability to move both ways and a turning radius of just 36 feet. Designed to scout battlefields, this is a very important feature because it's an independent vehicle able to get itself out of tight spots by moving diagonally like a crab.

Assuming that in a life-threatening situation, this specific feature is all about safety -  eliminate the possibility of exposing the vehicle's flanks or rear, where it's known that the armor is harder to put a stronger armor.  The Scarabée can fit a total crew of 4 people so, the safety of passengers' lives is always a top priority.

Featuring a 4x4 wheel layout and a weight up to eight-ton, the Scarabée can climb a 60-degree gradient, cross a 2.9-foot-wide ditch, and can smoothly cross almost three feet of water. It's even transportable with a C-130J Super Hercules, an A-400M Atlas transport, or any other larger military aircraft transporter.

Scarabée is built by Arquus and is promoted as the first hybrid electric drive military vehicle in France, Nato, and worldwide. Powered by a V6 engine, it provides up to 300 hp and an electric motor with a 70-kW output. Having these features, plus the use of stealth, improves its chances with lower acoustic and infrastructure radar picks and harder to be detected by the imaging infrared sensors.

The scout vehicle will be sold unarmed, letting the buyers load it up with the latest versions of weapons and sensors.
