The Wildest & Most Iconic Car Wings of All Time
by AutoExpert | 16 June, 2025
Car wings are basically automotive jewelry – completely unnecessary half the time, but they make everything look cooler. Some actually work, some are just for show, and some are so ridiculous they're awesome. Here's what car fans picked as the greatest wings ever stuck on the back of a car.
The Legends
Ferrari F40 - This one's not even a contest for some people. That wing is pure automotive art.
Lamborghini Countach - Totally useless from an aerodynamics standpoint, but who cares? It looks incredible and that's what matters.

Dodge Daytona & Plymouth Superbird - These things from 1969-70 are basically NASCAR with license plates. The wing is so tall you could probably hang laundry from it.

The Workhorses
Bugatti Veyron - This wing actually pulls double duty – makes downforce when you're going stupid fast, then flips up like an air brake when you need to stop from those stupid-fast speeds.

Porsche Panamera - That deployable wing still looks futuristic even years later. It's like something from a sci-fi movie.

Viper ACR - The thing is so massive it doubles as a picnic table. At 1776mm wide, it's even a patriotic nod to America.

The Unexpected Heroes
Audi TT - Looks tiny, but this little wing literally saved lives. Turns out when you build a car shaped like an airplane wing, it tries to fly like one. Audi learned that lesson the hard way.

BMW E30 M3 - Racing rules said the wing could only be so high, so BMW just raised the entire trunk lid. Problem solved.

Volvo 850 T5R Wagon - A wing on a wagon? Absolutely. And it looked perfect.

The Wild Cards
Merkur XR4Ti - A double-decker wing in the late '80s was pretty much unheard of. This weird Ford Sierra rebadge was ahead of its time.

Mitsubishi Evo VIII - Full carbon fiber and absolutely gorgeous. In Japan, they didn't even paint it – just let that carbon weave show through.

Porsche 911 Whale Tail - Classic, iconic, and perfectly proportioned. Still looks right today.

Some wings are pure function, others are pure style, and the best ones somehow manage to be both. In a world that takes itself way too seriously, sometimes you just need a giant spoiler to make things more fun.
