Riding a dirt bike in the rain is like playing with fire while holding a gasoline can. One small miss and god knows what can happen! Best to avoid it while you still can!

However, dirt bikes are meant for off the road and all-weather riding. So, there may be several instances where you'd be accelerating your bike against the heavy downpour.

So, how can you keep yourself safe in such conditions? What gear is a must? Before such questions start confusing you as a new dirt rider, this article is here to save the day.

We have discussed important bike gear you can't forget while riding in the rain.

Take a look.

Head Protection

Undoubtedly, kids motorcycle helmets are a rider's best friend. It is a non-negotiable choice for riding in rain as it provides the best protection from both a crash and the wind, rain, and cold.

Also, make sure to have goggles or a visor if you are wearing an open helmet. This will keep rain from getting on your face. High-quality visors will also allow you to see clearly in rainy conditions. Moreover, anti-fog goggles will be a great option to ensure that your vision is not blurred.

Rain Apparel

Yes, we're talking about a rain suit. As the name suggests, it's made for riding a dirt bike in the rain. A multi-piece rain suit will make sure the water flows off your body and does not leak inside.

These suits also come with multi-suit pants with a high waist to prevent water from leaking inside your gear. The pants also have shoe straps that keep water from wetting your legs.

Do not forget to wear this suit when you ride in a heavy downpour. It will keep you dry and comfortable and help you focus better.

Lower Body Protection

Here's the fact - riders worry so much about their weatherproof riding jackets that they often forget to wear the riding pants. However, a good pair of weatherproof riding pants are just as important.

They are made of waterproof fabric and seal around your waist to stop water from leaking in. They also cover your ankles to keep the water out.

It is often difficult to ride your bike on slippery roads and limited vision. You are needed to be focused on riding the bike. These pants help you achieve just that.

Wrist Protection

Your hands are what drive the bike, so they must remain dry and warm in wet conditions. This is why you must not leave your waterproof gloves behind. They protect your hands and give you more control over your bike.

We'd recommend that you wear full-gauntlet waterproof gloves. Because these gloves are bigger and they will reach over your jacket and keep water from getting into your hands.

Upper Body Protection

A weatherproof riding jacket can also be used if a rain suit is not your thing. A rain jacket with a high collar will seal around your neck and around your wrists. This will prevent water from dripping inside.

Moreover, a weatherproof jacket is great as it doesn't require you to change into a rain suit when it rains. The best thing about it is that you can wear it even if it's not raining - it will look just as good!

Ankle Protection

It is not a good idea to wear regular shoes while riding, especially in the rain. Your feet will be wet from rain and road water as soon as you start riding.

They are responsible for shifting gears and the rear brake, so it is crucial to keep them dry. The right waterproof boot will enable you to safely ride your motorcycle and make it easier for you to shift gears.

Moreover, boots that reach your ankles are also great because they keep water out and keep your feet warm.

Final Word

Riding in the rain isn't easy. It becomes even more challenging when you are riding a dirt bike. Make sure you keep yourself protected by equipping yourself with the gear discussed above.
