The Bugatti Chiron Driver Who Reached 259 MPH On The Autobahn Was Not Penalized

There will be no charges brought against a Czech businessman who drove his Bugatti Chiron at 259 mph on the Autobahn. Authorities were alerted to the tale in November 2021 after a YouTube video posted by Radim Passer showed him doing the feat at 257 mph.

Following the first video's publication, Passer followed up with one showing him reaching 259 mph. The German Transport Ministry swiftly criticized the maximum speed limit, and German prosecutors initiated an inquiry shortly after.

ABC reported that even though Passer might have faced up to two years in prison or a financial penalty, prosecutors in Stendal have opted not to bring charges.

Drivers can be prosecuted for dangerous driving on the Autobahn despite unrestricted speed limits, but prosecutors told Germany's DPA news agency that Passer did not endanger anybody because he completed the maximum speed run in the early morning along a section of road with relatively little traffic.
