Rolls-Royce Develops Life-Saving Suicide Doors

Rolls-Royce is synonymous with luxury and cutting-edge technology, so you should expect nothing less. But there's something new: expect suicide doors soon. They make entering and exiting the vehicle considerably more pleasant.

The doors of a Rolls-Royce are unusually heavy due to the significant use of sound suppression, thus RR included a small motor to help lighten the door's weight when opening it. Rolls-Royce doors can actually open and close on their own. The company is now making sure you don't open the doors when doing so might be dangerous.

The patent, which has already been issued by the trademark office, details a safety system that can guarantee a door's collision-free open position. The system proposes that the servo motors in RR automatic doors would utilize data from radar and/or LiDAR, ultrasonic sensors, or cameras.

If the safety system detects an approaching vehicle, it may send a signal to the door that reduces or disables the help it offers for opening the door. It might also emit a warning sound and send a vibration through the door, alerting anyone trying to open the door that doing so is dangerous.

If the individual continues to try to open the door, the door may intensify its resistance. Normal operation will restart and the door will be simple to open once the automobile determines that it is safe to do so. Since this patent was submitted in late 2020 and recently made public, we can anticipate it to appear on Rolls-Royce vehicles very soon.
