Recaro Files for Bankruptcy: Iconic Racing Seat Manufacturer Faces Uncertain Future

Recaro, a manufacturer of racing seats and sports vehicles in Germany, has announced its bankruptcy. On July 29, 2024, authorities filed the company's bankruptcy in a German court, appointing Stuttgart lawyer Holger Blümle to oversee it.

To be clear, Recaro Automotive Seating manufactures automotive seats, so it's not like all Recaro businesses are bankrupt. Recaro Holding, the airline and gaming chair manufacturer, has not gone bankrupt.

There have been several proprietors for Recaro's automobile seat division over the years. Johnson Controls purchased The Drive in 2011 and sold it to Raven Acquisitions in January 2020, according to reports from The Drive. Recaro Automotive reported a profit of $150 million in the 2019 sale announcement.

Nobody knows what Recaro will do next. Everyone is unsure whether Recaro will divide, sell, or shutter. It is premature to predict the fate of its 215 German soldiers. There are serious financial problems at the company, according to Auto Bild, since these employees have "contributed to the economic stabilization of the company by waiving and postponing wages" for years. The majority of these employees were unaware that their company had gone bankrupt until well before the deadline.

Starting out as a coachbuilder in 1906, Recaro eventually became known for their sport seats in the 1960s. A number of BMWs, Porsches, Alfa Romeos, Audi R8s, Ford Fiestas, and a lot more have their seats manufactured by this company.
