Police In Germany Are Investigating Bugatti Chiron Owner Who Clocked 260 MPH On The Autobahn

Everybody knows about the Bugatti Chiron owner who reached 260 mph on the autobahn. The Czech businessman who drove at 417 km/h (260 mph) is now in trouble with German authorities. After the achievement was extensively published in various media outlets, the highway police launched an inquiry.

In response to criticism that the drive was reckless and unsafe, Passer insisted he had "good visibility" and emphasized the braking power of his Bugatti. The findings were turned over to the prosecutor's office. 

The prosecutor's office in Stendal, in the northern state of Saxony-Anhalt, said it has begun an investigation into a possible unlawful racing in connection with the event. A solo drive can be classified as a forbidden race if the driver "advances at an inappropriate speed and in a manner that grossly breaches the traffic code and is reckless," according to the criminal code.

The driver's behavior was criticized by Germany's Transport Minister, Volker Wissing, who stated that while there is no speed limit, the automobile must always be "under control." Others have exploited the event to make the argument for a legal restriction, like Lower Saxony state Premier Stephan Weil, who told Spiegel magazine that there were "many good reasons" to control speed on highways.
