This year, from March 8 through 12South Australia hosted the famous Lake Gairdner Speed Week, and a new record was broken. This time the record award for the land speed goes to Royal Enfield for its 2021 Interceptor 650. 2020 should've been the 30th anniversary of the event, but was canceled due to the pandemic.

Despite the last year's situation, the 2021 event is counted as the 31st Annual 2021 Lake Gairdner Speed Week and the MidLife Cycles ( Class M-F) Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Salt Racer, nicknamed "Sabre" set all the records for its class except for one.

The Class M-F 650 had 655cc motorcycles without streamlining, tuning commercially, and available unleaded fuel. The Interceptor 650 broke the 119.961 mph record set back in 2016. It was CharlieHallam, a first-time speed record rider who was lucky enough to land it in the very first run with a 123.178 result.

The other 2 attempts made by Hallam followed that day by a 115.991 mph, and a later 121.782, and the lucky 3rd attempt was the 123.601 record. So, this was just the first day out of seven, and Hallam and Interceptor were a pretty successful team. The second day he delivered the next three record-breaking one after another - 128.935, 130.204 mph, and ended the day with 130.307 mhp new records for day one. Anyway, the bad weather on the third day, one attempt was enough for Hallam to set his best time for the week - 133.779 mph. The jury calculated a total record at 132.050 mph. And this is the newest record for the Class M-F 2021 Lake Gairdner Speed Week.

Sabre is a motorcycle built in 2019, during the Enfields' Busted Knuckles Build-Off, especially for the 2020 event. The tuning modifications include a full Öhlins suspension, custom front, and rear sprockets, lighter alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli Diablo slicks, and a custom swingarm lengthened by the maximum allowed amount in its class, 130mm

The building team was a partnership between HRA Geelong (Andrew Hallam)  and Hallam Cycle Works (Charlie Hallam). Despite the one-year delay, the team is pleased with the results. More details about the winners and the event you can read on Royal Enfield Australia's official site.
