McLaren And BMW Are Apparently Developing An Electric Vehicle Platform

Many people have been talking about Audi or BMW buying McLaren for months now. According to recent news in German media, all three companies have consistently refuted the rumors, however, there is some fresh movement. Early rumors suggested BMW would be interested in buying a share in McLaren in November of last year, but executives from the Bavarian carmaker condemned the information as wrong. 

Audi was also mentioned as a prospective new owner of the British firm a few days later, however, an Ingolstadt PR manager quickly stated that no formal information could be published. Furthermore, McLaren has stated that this is completely wrong and that it would seek to get misleading stories removed from outlets.

Audi has reportedly launched a second proposal for McLaren, according to a new report. However, there's something else in the article from the German publication Automobilwoche that's much more intriguing. According to reports, McLaren and BMW are in talks about developing a new electric car platform.

There isn't much to go on right now, but according to the story, the two companies signed a memorandum of agreement on March 24. It refers to the combined construction of a new electric vehicle architecture for sports vehicles, but no additional details have been released so far. According to Automotive News, if the cooperation with Audi comes to fruition, this agreement might be nullified.
