JLR Invests £10 Million To Combat Thefts In The UK

Range Rover thefts have become a worrying problem in the UK, and some owners are finding it difficult to get insurance because of growing costs and security worries. In response, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has committed to spending more than £10 million ($12.5 million) to apply security patches to cars made after 2018.

Free electronic security upgrades have been installed in almost 65,000 cars, with a special emphasis on models that are susceptible to hacking of keyless entry systems.

Thanks to Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) technology, newer Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles from 2022 forward are less likely to be stolen; nonetheless, earlier models are receiving upgraded Body Control Modules (BCMs). These modules use embedded technology to prevent attempts at hacking.

To take advantage of extra security features like lock reminders and Guardian Mode, which notifies owners if any unwanted activity is detected, JLR encourages users to use its applications. Again, JLR highlights its dedication to combating the theft problem, while recognizing the detrimental effects on the ownership experience.

The funding is intended to improve vehicle security; however, it is unclear whether it also applies to drivers in the United States.
