How Soon Will McLaren Produce An Electric Hypercar?

Fans are eagerly awaiting McLaren's electric hypercar, and recently, CEO Michael Leiters shared some details. He mentioned that the upcoming Mission X rival won't rely solely on extreme power, unlike the P1's electric successor.

Leiters stressed how important it was to control the weight added by the batteries and avoid making a heavy car. The objective for McLaren is to create an emissions-free hypercar that maintains a weight similar to their lightweight 750S, which weighs just 2,815 lbs.

For comparison, the Rimac Nevera boasts 1,914 horsepower and weighs 4,740 pounds, while the Pininfarina Battista has 1,900 horsepower and weighs 4,548 pounds. He said that making a fast, light car isn't only about numbers but also about the company's values.

Leiters also added that their EV hypercar must excel in performance and handling, surpassing the equivalent internal combustion engine model. The release date for this electric hypercar is projected to be sometime at the end of the decade.

However, despite the excitement surrounding electric hypercars, McLaren is in no hurry to unveil an all-electric successor to the P1. Leiters revealed that customer feedback indicates there isn't a strong demand for an electric hypercar just yet. McLaren's dedication to client satisfaction is shown through this strategy.
