High Tesla Cybertruck Charging Costs Stir Controversy: Insights and Reactions

So, get this—everyone’s been buzzing аbout the Tesla Cybertruck since it hit the roаds lаst November, but not all the chаtter is positive. Between a Cybertruck catching fire after a weird accident with a fire hydrant and a massive recall over a glitchy accelerator pedal, it’s been a bit of a rocky start.

Now, we all know electric vehicles are supposed to be cheaper to run than their gas-guzzling cousins, right? Well, it turns out the Cybertruck might be bucking that trend in a not-so-great way.

Here’s the scoop: Entrepreneur David Nguyen found his Cybertruck’s battery almost empty, so he decided to record the whole charging process and post it on Instagram. He taps open the charging port, plugs in, and hops back in to wait. And the verdict? It takes an hour and a half to charge that beast from nearly dead to full—that’s a 296-mile range.

But here’s the real kicker: it costs a whopping $73! David breaks it down—121kW of energy at $0.61 per kWh in his hometown of San Leandro, California. He tries to stay upbeat about it, calling it "pretty good" because, hey, it’s a Cybertruck, right? The future on wheels!

But not everyone’s buying that. The comment section lit up with more than 4,000 people sounding off. One user was flabbergasted: "$70???? I thought electric was cheaper. Why are we doing this again." Another chimed in comparing it to their diesel truck that costs $80 to fill for nearly double the mileage and only takes a few minutes at the pump. And yet another said it’s about the same cost and effort as filling up a gas SUV, but much slower, so they'd stick to regular old combustion engines.

One person just summed it up: "Absolute joke."

So, while the Cybertruck has some cool factor as a futuristic ride, it’s definitely giving some folks sticker shock at the charging station.
