Recall Issued For Ford Explorers Due To Windshield Trim Detachment

Ford, which has led recalls in the U.S. for the past three years, faces a major start in 2024 with a recall of 1,889,110 Explorers due to a manufacturing flaw. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlights the risk of trim around the windshield coming loose and posing a danger to following vehicles.
Despite Ford initially downplaying the issue in 2018, an investigation by NHTSA and Transport Canada in 2023 revealed concerns about potential hazards.
In November, Ford conceded and announced a recall for fifth-generation Explorers spanning 2011 to 2019, acknowledging 14,337 warranty reports of lost windshield trim. Ford attributes the problem to improperly engaged clip attachments, possibly due to incorrect factory installation or post-repair reinstallation.
Owners can easily identify the issue through audible rattling or a visible gap before the trim dislodges. Starting March 13, Ford will contact owners to inspect and repair the A-pillar trim, applying extra adhesive to prevent a recurrence.
The company will ensure a thorough inspection process is carried out after installation. Ford also introduces a reimbursement plan for owners who cover repair costs independently.
