Federal Investigators Launch Probe Into Ford Bronco 2.7-liter V6 Motor Failures

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has started an investigation into Ford Broncos fitted with the 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost motor, due to reports from different owners. 

“Under normal driving conditions without warning the vehicle may experience a loss of motive power without restart due to catastrophic engine failure to a faulty valve,” according to a paper from the safety agency.

According to its Office of Defects Investigation, 32 complaints have been registered from customers. Some claim that when driving at highway speeds, their vehicle lost power. The root cause of the problem is yet unknown. However, based on customer reports, it appears that engines are losing valves. Bronco owners indicate that after this problem, their motors must be changed.

“We are aware of a select number of engines with this concern and we are investigating. If any customers are experiencing issues, they will be covered under the vehicle’s 5-year, a 60,000-mile powertrain warranty,” Ford said.
NHTSA's examination does not imply a recall, but the agency is currently investigating the matter and may decide to launch one in the future. Approximately 25,538 Ford Bronco automobiles could be affected if this occurs.
