Opel wants to celebrate in style its Manta’s 50tha anniversary with the newly revealed Manta GSe Elektromod one-off special. It’s no news because the GSe sub-brand was teased two months ago during its teaser campaign. The new high-performance vehicles mark Opel’s first electric restomod, bringing along the modern EV components into the classic silhouette of the compact German coupe.

Let’s dive into this beauty – first of all, the Opel engineer team decided to replace the original 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor offering 145 horsepower and 225 Newton-meters of torque. Keeping the original four-speed manual transmission was a smart move even for an electric coupe with an optional automatic version.

The Manta GSe Elektromod carries under its hood a31 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, allowing an average 124 miles (200 km) range and the Restomod version has now regenerative braking and a 9kW onboard charger with a full charge in less than four hours. The Manta GSe features three-dimensional LED units and a “Pixel-Vizor” front end that spans across the width of the car as a display used for playful messages.

For the interior, Opel opted for a Marshall high-end audio system and the brand’s latest digital displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system dubbed Pure Panel. This is a 12-inch and 10-inch digital display-oriented towards the driver. The Elektromod features a pair of sports seats with a yellow center line, a Petri three-spoke steering wheel features a yellow marker in the 12 o’clock position, a matt grey dash and door panels, and the headliner is now finished in Alcantara.

The Opel Manta GSe Elektromod is the first one in line with the GSe badging range of high-performance electrified models for the near future, next following a hot hatch version of the existing Corsa-e. To make sure that the Opel drivers will stand out, the German automaker opted for a striking yellow color exterior, a black bonnet, and17-inch Ronal alloy wheels.
