It is interesting to discover the details of the production process of the RML Short Wheelbase, the hand-built restomod car inspired by the Ferrari 250 GT SWB. The English company has shared some information about the making of the car to explain why it takes eight months to produce.
By showcasing the progress of the first three customer cars and the pre-production prototype, RML Group demonstrates how the vehicle evolves from a bare chassis to a fully completed car.
The black vehicle represents the first stage of manufacturing. A thorough chassis restoration, including powder painting, has already been completed on it. Following that is the lightweight 93.6-pound carbon-fiber two-piece body.
After the structure is assembled, a specific paint made for carbon fiber may be used as a primer. RML uses many coats of primer and a silver undercoat to make the final color sparkle.
The third vehicle is the most production-ready of the bunch since its paint job is complete. According to RML, the team is now wiring the cabin and adding insulation. Following that, they may begin working on the interior and exterior trim.
Last but not least, a 5.5-liter V12 engine producing 479 horsepower is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox that routes power to the back wheels via a limited slip differential. Delivery of the first RML Short Wheelbase is scheduled for the next month.
