Corvette Has A Front-Engined Neovette Designed By Leyang Bai

The C8 Corvette is already trying to show that even such a straight-lined automaker Chevrolet, can change 65 years of tradition. This time we get a rule-changer for its retained two seats and rear-wheel drive with an adopted rear mid-engine layout.

Now everyone is curious about Chevrolet's intention to go back to a front-engined layout for the next-generation Corvette. Leyang Bai, a car designer, tried to show us what such a car might look like. Of course, this is a non-related concept not endorsed by the automaker itself, but let's get a closer look at a sports car’s older iterations to envision its future.

Bai dubbed it as Neovette, and he draws it taking inspiration from the C2 and C3 generations, and at the first glance, the designer had cleverly incorporated cues. After looking at it closely you can notice the C2's tapered greenhouse, a well-pointed rear bumper, and the B-pillar “picnic basket”. From the C3 generation, Bai brought the striking fenders, a pinched nose, and a power bulge in the hood.

The third feature used for Bai's masterpiece-designed Corvette is the historic pop-up headlights. which actually act as covers that retract down into the body, and are found on both Vector W8 and Jaguar XJ220. For the interior, Bai creates a C8 similar space with the sense of its driver-focused nature, to make “a more inviting space, while the overall aesthetic remains sharp and highly layered."

Also, Neovette is perfectly imagined as a hybrid drivetrain according to the latest industry future trends. This concept shows a Corvette might serve as inspiration if the automaker wants to go for the long haul car designed. It wouldn't be the first time when GM would go the other extreme for a radical design change.
