Bankrupt Fisker Seeks Approval To Sell 3,321 Ocean SUVs For $46.25M

A bankruptcy court is monitoring Fisker's Chapter 11 proceedings; the business has requested approval to sell nearly 3,000 Ocean electric SUVs to a leasing company for around $14,000 each.

A court document from Tuesday states that Fisker may sell 3,321 electric automobiles to American Lease of New York for $46.25 million when the judge gives the go-ahead. The electric vehicle firm, which only recently sought bankruptcy protection, ran into logistical problems while selling its Ocean electric SUVs, and early this year shifted to a dealer-partner model due to excessive spending.

The company slashed the pricing of its Ocean SUVs from over $70,000 to approximately $25,000 for the base model to pay off debt prior to its bankruptcy.

In the two weeks leading up to Fisker's Chapter 11 bankruptcy, American Lease had already committed to purchasing 2,100 Ocean EVs on May 30. A month later, they upped their offer to purchase all 3,321 Oceans that were available for sale. American Lease offers a variety of vehicles for hire or lease to drivers who work for rideshare companies in and around New York City.

Just last year, the Big Apple ordered all of its rideshare drivers to switch to electric or wheelchair-accessible cars by the year 2030.
