Aurrigo, a company based in the UK, has unveiled its Auto-Shuttle as the designated autonomous vehicle for the Living Lab for Autonomous Electric Vehicles project.

In the initial phase, these Auto-Shuttles will have a human operator on board, ready to take control if needed. However, Aurrigo has ambitious plans to eventually replace these operators with remote supervisors who can intervene if necessary.

This transition is all about getting riders comfortable with the idea of using a bus without a driver, while the team continues perfecting the fully autonomous technology.

Bani Anvari, a professor at University College London collaborating on this innovative project with Aurrigo, emphasized how these driverless shuttles can revolutionize urban living by addressing crucial challenges like reducing emissions, enhancing safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and ultimately improving the overall quality of life for city residents.

The Living Lab for Autonomous Electric Vehicles project, financially backed by the European Union and spearheaded by the University College of London, is a vital partner in Aurrigo's autonomous vehicle deployment. The Auto-Shuttle vehicles by Aurrigo are already in operation in various cities, including Prague and Brno in the Czech Republic, as well as Milton Keynes in the UK.

David Keene, the CEO of Aurrigo, expressed excitement about this significant step, underlining the importance of testing the Auto-Shuttle in diverse cityscapes - from the historic, cobbled streets of Prague to the contemporary roads of Milton Keynes.

To power its autonomous capabilities, the Auto-Shuttle relies on LiDAR technology, complemented by cameras and Aurrigo's own software, creating a comprehensive and precise view of its surroundings. Aurrigo places great emphasis on a strong safety framework to ensure responsible deployment of this cutting-edge technology.
