Aston Martin Just Built a Military SUV, But You Can't Drive It on the Road

Aston Martin has ventured into an unexpected new arena, not with another road car, but with a military-inspired SUV built exclusively for a video game. Called the Dreadnought, the armored concept was created for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and, while it will never reach production, it offers a glimpse at how luxury brands are trying to connect with younger audiences.

Developed with Infinity Ward and Activision, the Dreadnought was designed without worrying about road regulations, safety standards, or manufacturing costs.

That gave Aston Martin's designers complete creative freedom, resulting in what the company describes as the ultimate tactical performance SUV. The finished design blends familiar Aston Martin styling with the rugged look of a futuristic military vehicle.

The attention to detail goes beyond its appearance. Players will hear what Aston Martin says is the sound of one of its V12 engines, while Infinity Ward worked closely with the automaker to ensure the SUV's movement, handling, and physics still felt true to the brand despite its battlefield role. The name "Dreadnought" also carries historical significance, referencing the legendary British battleship HMS Dreadnought, which transformed naval warfare in the early 1900s.

That influence can be seen throughout the concept, from its heavy armor and integrated weapons storage to reserve fuel tanks and adaptive combat systems. It may be fictional, but it wouldn't look out of place in the next James Bond movie.

Behind the armored bodywork is a long-term marketing strategy. Aston Martin hopes that appearing in one of the world's biggest gaming franchises will help build brand recognition among future luxury buyers. The Dreadnought joins Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on October 23, while a real-world replica heads to Fanatics Fest in New York.
