America's First Air Suspension? Meet the Wild 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham

So get this – everyone thinks fancy air suspension is some European luxury invention, right? Nope! Turns out America got there first, way back in the 50s.

Cadillac dropped the Eldorado Brougham in 1957, and holy cow was it expensive. We're talking double the price of other Cadillacs at the time – a whopping $13,074, which is like $150k today. Crazy money, but then again, they only made 400 of these beasts.

What made it special? This thing basically floated down the road. The air suspension used these metal domes with rubber diaphragms that soaked up bumps like nothing else on the market. Plus, it kept itself perfectly level no matter how many people piled in or how hard you took corners. Pretty slick for the Eisenhower era!

Under the hood was a massive 6.0-liter V8 pumping out 325 horses. But the real flex was all the "world's first" features this land yacht introduced. Automatic door locks? This Caddy had 'em first. Memory settings for your driver's seat? Yep, first time ever. There was even a perfume dispenser in the back armrest because... why not?

These days, if you want one, prepare to shell out serious cash. Perfect examples go for about $137k, while "needs work" versions start around $40k. Not exactly pocket change.

Love it or hate it, you gotta respect the Brougham for beating European luxury brands to the punch with technology we now take for granted. Just another reminder that sometimes the best innovations come wearing an American badge!
