They Started With An 8-HP Fiat Topolino And Had Some Fun

What do you get when two Italian car designers start with one of the smallest cars on the road and decide to have some fun? In this case, you get two very different Fiat Topolinos.
Fabrizio Giugiaro and entrepreneur Lapo Elkann teamed up with GFG Style to turn the tiny quadricycle into the Top. L speedster and the four-seat Top. J.
The project starts with the Fiat Topolino, the Italian brand’s smallest and cheapest model and a close relative of the Citroën Ami. Its L6e classification comes with strict limits on weight and performance, but that didn’t stop Giugiaro and Elkann from getting creative.
The two have been friends for years and wanted to work on a project together, eventually deciding to start with something small and accessible instead of an exotic supercar.
The Top. L is the more dramatic. GFG Style removes the roof and most of the original upper body, replacing it with a short wraparound windshield. The doors disappear too, with Wicker Ropes taking their place.
It also gets redesigned LED headlights inspired by the Fiat 500, vintage-style chrome wheels, and a Matte Aquamarine finish. Matching leather and Alcantara cover the interior. GFG Style says the design takes inspiration from the Porsche 550 Spyder famously associated with James Dean.
The Fiat Topolino Top. J takes a very different approach. It remains open to the elements but adds a fabric canopy and tube doors, while a rear-facing bench turns the Topolino into a four-seater. There’s a catch: the unusual rear seats extend beyond the rear of the car, and the extra seating means the concept no longer fits the L6e rules.
It would instead fall into the higher L7e category. Its blue-and-green color scheme comes from a Ferrari 166 MM driven by Gianni Agnelli in the 1950s, with the same colors carried into the cabin.
Neither concept gets any mechanical upgrades. Both retain the Topolino’s single electric motor with 8 hp and a 5.5-kWh battery, good for a claimed 47 miles of range. There are no production plans at this point, but Giugiaro and Elkann say they plan to continue working together.
