Volkswagen Made the ID. Buzz Cargo Bigger — And Gave It One Seriously Useful Trick

The ID. Buzz Cargo has always been a van with a bit of personality, but now Volkswagen is giving it something every work van can appreciate: more room. The new long-wheelbase version stretches the load area and adds a few useful upgrades without changing the basic formula.

The load area is 9.8 inches longer than the regular model, adding 17.7 cubic feet (500 liters) of cargo space. There’s also a wooden floor and up to 1,543 lbs of payload capacity. The two sliding doors are 7.5 inches longer, too, which means a Euro pallet can fit through them. Buyers can choose a regular liftgate or optional rear wing doors.

The cabin gets a few changes as well. There are two- and three-seat layouts, plus Volkswagen’s new Innovision infotainment system with an updated app store. The steering wheel is new, while Travel Assist now recognizes traffic lights and can bring the van to a stop at a red light. There’s also one-pedal driving and Vehicle-to-Load, so the Buzz can work as a big mobile battery for other equipment.

An 86-kWh battery sits under the floor, with rear- and all-wheel drive available. The rear-drive version makes 282 hp, while the AWD model produces 335 hp. Both can tow up to 3,968 lbs.

German prices start at €48,490 ($55,225) and reach €50,630 ($57,662) for the AWD model, before VAT. That’s about €2,340 ($2,665) more than the regular version. Not cheap, perhaps, but if you’re using an electric van for work, that extra space can be worth a lot more.
