Slate's Affordable EV Truck Gets Custom Style Packs Under $29,000

Most automakers sell you the truck first and the accessories later. Slate is flipping that idea on its head. As its affordable electric pickup moves closer to production, the startup is putting personalization front and center, showing buyers that adding some character to the truck doesn't have to come with a painful price tag.

Instead of asking customers to build their truck piece by piece, Slate has created themed "starter packs" that bundle wraps, decals, wheel graphics, and other accessories into ready-made packages.

Early options include Baja Blaze, All Green Flags, and Rally Point, each giving the pickup its own personality without forcing buyers to spend hours browsing a long accessories catalog. According to Slate, every package keeps the truck below the $29,000 mark, while the entry-level Blank Slate still starts at $24,950 before destination charges, taxes, and registration.

The approach says a lot about how Slate sees its customers. The company barely talks about horsepower, range, or payload in its latest message to reservation holders. The spotlight stays firmly on affordability and self-expression, making the truck feel more like something you can shape to match your style than just another entry-level EV. It's a strategy that feels closer to buying a pair of sneakers than ordering a pickup.

Specs will always matter, especially in the pickup world. Slate just believes they don't have to be the first thing buyers fall in love with. That makes this one of the more interesting experiments in the EV market right now.
