LeBron James' Custom Maybach S 680 Is Going To Auction For Charity

A Maybach S 680 already sits near the top of the luxury-car food chain. Add LeBron James to the story, give the car a one-off specification, and then put it up for charity auction. Suddenly, you have a Maybach with far more going for it than leather and horsepower.

Mercedes-Benz will bring the special S 680 to Pebble Beach this year, where it will appear alongside some of the brand’s most important modern and historic cars. After Monterey Car Week, the company plans to auction the Maybach, with the proceeds supporting the LeBron James Family Foundation.

The car closely follows James’ own Maybach. He created his personal S 680 through Mercedes’ MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure program, which lets customers commission details far beyond the usual options list.

His specification combines a light ivory exterior with a Stormy Weather blue Nappa leather cabin and porcelain stitching. James also replaced the traditional V12 emblem with his own logo. Small engravings around the cabin reference Akron, Ohio, and his family.

Mercedes gave the auction car the same overall treatment. That makes it more than another expensive Maybach with a celebrity connection. The buyer will get a car that directly reflects the choices of one of the most recognizable athletes in the world, while also contributing to a good cause.

The mechanical side stays familiar. A 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 produces 621 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission sends the power through the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

Mercedes chose the Maybach for its Future Classics Auction House display, a showcase built around modern cars that could become tomorrow’s collectibles. The lineup also includes the AMG PureSpeed, AMG G 63 Galactic Pearl and AMG ONE, giving the Maybach some serious company.

Visitors to Pebble Beach can also see some of Mercedes’ genuine legends, including the 300 SL Roadster and CLK 63 AMG Black Series. The 1905 American Mercedes adds another piece of history, as it represents the first Mercedes built in the United States.

The company will also preview its upcoming AMG GT SUV, which could become Mercedes-AMG’s electric flagship with more than 1,100 hp.

Still, the LeBron Maybach has something the other cars can’t quite match. It carries a personal design story, a famous name, and a charitable purpose. When the auction finally opens, the final price could make this already unusual S 680 even more interesting.
