The BMW M2 CS Wasn't Rare Enough, So BMW Built This

There are plenty of fast cars you can buy if you have the money. Finding one that almost nobody else can have is a different story. That’s where BMW’s M2 CS Edition Edge comes in.

The regular M2 already feels like a modern answer to the old-school E30 M3 formula. It’s compact, rear-wheel drive, comes with two doors, and still has the kind of attitude that makes you want to take the long way home. The current M3 has grown considerably over the years, leaving the M2 as BMW’s closest thing to a genuinely small M car.

For 2026, BMW pushed that formula further with the M2 CS. It gets more power, less weight, and a sharper setup than the standard M2. Production is limited to a little over 2,000 cars worldwide, and most buyers didn’t waste much time claiming them.

The United States received roughly 300 cars, while Canada got 81 and South Africa 47. Japan was allocated 87. That makes the M2 CS a rare sight already. But BMW Japan decided that 87 cars still wasn’t exclusive enough.

Meet the M2 CS Edition Edge. Based on the CS, this special version adds extra carbon-fiber parts both inside and out. The goal is simple: cut weight wherever possible. The regular CS is already about 100 pounds lighter than the standard M2, so BMW is clearly chasing every last ounce. Even the engine cover gets the carbon treatment, which should also make the straight-six sound a little less restrained.

The exhaust has been changed as well. Instead of the familiar four outlets positioned toward the corners of the rear bumper, the Edition Edge uses four centrally mounted tips. It gives the car a more distinctive look and makes the whole package feel like BMW emptied much of its M Performance parts catalog onto an already serious M2.

In Japan, the regular M2 CS starts at ¥14.88 million, roughly $94,000. The Edition Edge raises that to ¥16.63 million, or about $105,000. That puts it firmly into collector-car territory, especially when you consider how few will actually exist.

BMW plans to build only 40 M2 CS Edition Edge models. Half will be finished in M Brooklyn Grey, while the other 20 will wear Sapphire Black. All of them will be right-hand drive and sold exclusively in Japan.
