The MG Go! Looks Cute, But Renault Should Probably Pay Attention

MG is bringing two concepts to Goodwood, but one of them is more important than its show-car badge suggests. The MG Go! is an early look at the MG2, a small electric hatch expected in 2027. And if the final car stays close to this shape, the Renault 5 and Mini Cooper E could have another rival to worry about.
The Go! pulls ideas from some very different chapters of MG's past. Its front end and C-pillar have hints of the MGB GT, while the swollen wheel arches quietly reference the 6R4 Group B rally car. MG even points to the old ZR, a cheap and fun hatch that became a favorite among young drivers in the 2000s. Could the MG2 become the electric version of that same idea?

Despite those references, the Go! doesn't feel like a retro remake. MG has kept the shape modern, using older details without making them too obvious. The result is a small EV with a bit more character than the usual anonymous hatchback. That's probably exactly what MG needs if it wants to take buyers away from the Renault 5.

The second concept goes in a completely different direction. The Cyber Concept is a large electric performance SUV with some inspiration from MG's EX181 streamliner of the 1950s. In reality, its muscular shape looks closer to a Ferrari Purosangue, while the rear lights may seem familiar to Hyundai Tucson owners.

The Go! is expected to become a production car in around two years. The Cyber Concept is much less certain and doesn't even have an interior yet, with MG admitting a road-going version could skip the UK. So, which concept matters more? Right now, our money is on the little one.
