Volkswagen Quietly Updated the Caddy Where It Actually Matters

Volkswagen is giving the Caddy a mid-cycle update, and the focus is clear. Less about big design changes, more about tech and efficiency.

From the outside, the changes are subtle. The front bumper is new, dropping the old honeycomb pattern for simpler cooling intakes. The Cargo version keeps things practical with unpainted plastic, while the Style and California trims go for body-colored panels with black accents.

The headlights stay the same, along with the LED strip that links them to the VW badge. From the side, it looks familiar too. The only real updates are new wheel designs, ranging from 16 to 18 inches, and a few extra color options.

Inside is where the bigger update sits, even though VW has not shown it yet. The company talks about a redesigned dashboard with a larger standalone screen. It will run a new infotainment system with simpler controls and more features, likely shared with the latest ID models. The Multivan T7 is getting a similar treatment.

The layout stays flexible. The Caddy will still come in two wheelbase lengths, with seating for two, five, or seven people, depending on the version. For work use, the Caddy Cargo Maxi remains the most practical, offering up to 3,100 liters, or 109.5 cubic feet, of space. On the other end, the California version focuses on camping.

Engine choices carry over. Buyers will still get gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options. The eHybrid pairs a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor for a combined 148 hp, or 110 kW. It uses a 19.7 kWh battery and can drive up to 122 km, or 76 miles, on electric power alone.

Pre-sales are set to start in mid-2026, with a full reveal, including the interior, expected closer to launch.

The Volkswagen Caddy has been around since 2003, and the carmaker has sold 2.9 million units across five generations. It still sits in a crowded segment, up against models like the Ford Transit Connect, Renault Kangoo, Citroen Berlingo, and Toyota ProAce City.
