Suzuki Built A $13,000 Police Van That Can Carry 10 People

What if the perfect police vehicle for a crowded city isn’t a powerful SUV but a tiny $13,000 van that can carry 10 people? Suzuki seems to have found exactly that formula in the Philippines with the new Carry Patrol Van.

The Carry starts with a cab-over truck that already serves as a practical workhorse across Asia. Suzuki keeps the front cabin and ladder-frame chassis, then adds a heavy-duty rear module with reversible benches for up to 10 passengers. Checkered flooring, a built-in side step, and lockable canvas covers make the back ready for municipal duties, while roof-mounted emergency lights, a siren, and an external speaker complete the police setup.

The Suzuki Carry Patrol Van uses a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 95 hp and 135 Nm. A five-speed manual sends power to the rear wheels, and the truck can carry up to 940 kg. It won’t chase anyone down the highway, but that’s hardly the point. Suzuki designed it for local government units, barangays, and other organizations that need a simple vehicle for moving people and equipment.

Suzuki also introduced the Carry PUV Class 1 for transport cooperatives, municipal shuttles, and resorts. It gets side-facing benches, extra headroom, canvas windows, and a fire extinguisher. The Patrol Van costs 822,000 Philippine pesos, or around $13,400, while the PUV starts at 849,000 pesos. The regular Carry starts at about $10,000. American buyers will have to wait 25 years before U.S. import rules allow one onto American roads.
