Porsche Vibes, GAC Price: Meet the Hyptec S600

Some new EVs try so hard to look futuristic that they end up feeling overdesigned. The new GAC Hyptec S600 takes a cleaner approach. It’s the latest model from GAC’s premium Hyptec brand, and while the name itself is pretty forgettable, the design is much more interesting.

The overall shape brings to mind the Porsche Macan Electric, especially with its sloping roofline and sleek proportions. GAC seems to have sacrificed a bit of rear headroom in favor of style, but the result is a sharp-looking SUV with a full-width rear light bar and detailed LED taillights.

It’s also a fairly large vehicle. The GAC Hyptec S600 measures just over five meters long and rides on a 2,936 mm wheelbase, making it bigger than rivals like the Zeekr 7X. That extra size should translate into plenty of interior space, and the cabin certainly looks the part. Up front, there’s a large central touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, and premium metallic trim throughout. The rear seats recline up to 143 degrees and include deployable footrests, while a 22-speaker sound system comes standard.

GAC will offer the S600 as both a fully electric model and a range extender. The EV version uses a single electric motor producing 335 horsepower and will be available with either lithium iron phosphate or ternary lithium batteries. Depending on the version, the claimed range is between 410 miles and 497 miles.

For buyers who want more flexibility, the range-extended version adds a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine to charge the battery on the move. That setup limits electric-only range to 143 miles but significantly increases the total distance the S600 can cover. Pre-orders are already open in China.

There are dashboard lights that can wait until the weekend. A low washer-fluid warning, for instance, is hardly a reason to abandon a grocery run. The red oil-can symbol is not one of those lights.
